Cancer is an infectious disease that results in uncontrollably changing and growing cells. Our bodies typically create new cells to replace damaged or aging ones as needed. However, this process is disrupted when cancer develops. Cancer cells do not die when they should, and they continue to grow even when the body does not need them. These excess cells may develop into growths or tumors.
Although cancers can arise anywhere in the body, they most frequently do so in specific organs like the skin, prostate, breast, colon, or lung. For instance, head and neck cancers can arise in the throat, larynx (voice box), nose, sinuses, or salivary glands, among other head and neck tissues.
